Frequently asked questions
What is The Theta Clinic?
The Theta Clinic is the first adaptive nervous system clinic in the UK. Every session starts with an HRV assessment on the Theta sensor; the reading configures FDA-approved transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation, zero-gravity dry flotation on the Driifloat, and light and sound therapy. A closing assessment measures what shifted, and clients leave with a PDF report of before-and-after biomarkers.
Where is The Theta Clinic based?
The clinic is at Aquavista, First Marine Avenue, Barton on Sea, Hampshire BH25 7DP, United Kingdom. The Theta Model is also delivered at partner venues through the licensing programme.
Who founded The Theta Clinic?
The Theta Clinic was founded by Kate Bell. It trades as KBI Group Limited, a company registered in England and Wales.
What is HRV and why does it matter?
Heart rate variability (HRV) is the millisecond-level variation between consecutive heart beats. Higher HRV signals a more responsive, well-regulated autonomic nervous system; chronically low HRV is associated with stress load, poor recovery, and burnout risk. HRV is the primary biomarker The Theta Clinic uses to configure and measure every session.
What is measured during a session?
Before and after each session the Theta sensor measures HRV time-domain metrics (SDNN, RMSSD, mean IBI), maximum heart rate response (MHRR), frequency-domain power (VLF, LF, HF, total power), and coherence. The client's PDF report shows the change in each metric alongside a plain-English clinical interpretation.
How does transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation work?
Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) delivers a gentle electrical signal through a small electrode on the outer ear, activating the auricular branch of the vagus nerve. This shifts the autonomic nervous system toward parasympathetic dominance, which typically raises HRV and lowers resting heart rate. The Theta Clinic uses an FDA-approved tVNS device.
What is the Driifloat dry flotation bed?
The Driifloat is a zero-gravity dry flotation bed: the client lies on a warmed membrane above 800 litres of body-temperature water, fully clothed and completely dry. It removes proprioceptive load and mechanical pressure, which in most people produces a rapid drop into a parasympathetic, restorative state.
Is vagus nerve stimulation safe?
tVNS is non-invasive and delivered externally through the ear. It is contraindicated in a small number of conditions (for example, active implanted cardiac devices such as pacemakers, and pregnancy); these are screened at the pre-session intake. Reported side effects are mild and short-lived.
Who is Theta for?
Theta is for adults living with chronic sympathetic activation — the "wired and tired" state — including founders, executives, high performers, people in recovery from burnout, and those whose HRV has flatlined despite conventional interventions. Take the 60-second nervous system check-in at Is Theta for me? or the burnout test to see if it fits.
What does a session cost?
See the full breakdown on the pricing page. Options include a single trial session, six- and twelve-session Pathways, and gift vouchers.
How do I book?
Browse services, retreats, and gift vouchers, then reserve and pay online at Book a session, or send a note via the contact page.
Can I licence the Theta Model for my own clinic?
Yes. Investment details, financial projections, and the enquiry form for prospective licensees are on the Licence the Theta Model page.
